After traces of MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) were detected in three different samples collected from the city, an advisory is being issued by the food and drugs administration (FDA) asking restaurants and shopkeepers to abstain from serving Maggi to their customers.

It also said that a fine up to Rs 2 lakh will be imposed under the Food Safety and Standard Act-2011 upon anyone who is found serving or selling Maggi.

The samples were collected from Snehlataganj and Saudama Nagar and were sent for testing on May 27. However, no lead contents were found in the report.

The FDA stated that three different percentage and levels of MSG were found in all the samples resulting into a ban. “All the three samples had different levels of MSG. Moreover, on two it was written that it does not contain MSG, while others had no such information.”

“There is still confusion amongst people about the ban. During the campaign of seven days we will work on ensuring that proper restraint is followed,” he added.
