Rains touch 40-inch mark in Indore, 10-yr old record breached

Breaching a decade old record, Indore received 191.2 milimetres (7.5 inches) of rains in last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday. Rainfall received from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Wednesday is 2.4 milimetres.

Indore recorded maximum temperature of 24.8 degrees Celsius which was three degrees below normal. The minimum temperature at 20.2 degrees Celsius was one degree below normal. Winds blew from west and north-west for most part of day at 46 kilometres an hour.

Local weather bureau has predicted light to moderate rains in and around city on Thursday.

Schools to remain shut on Thursday

Following heavy water-logging across the city and in neighbouring districts, collectors from Indore, Dhar, Dewas and Jhabua have directed schools to remain shut on Thursday.

In Shajapur, district collector Rajiv Sharma said the holiday will be only for school children, while school teachers need to attend their duty as per schedule.

Sharma ordered the district education officer and coordinating officers to make sure the directive is followed in the district.

Decision on whether the schools will reopen on Friday will be taken on Thursday night.

Rain disrupts train movement in Ratlam division

The incessant rain in the region has taken a toll on rail movement in Ratlam division of Western Railways.

As per a release issued by Ratlam railway division, as many as eight trains are running behind schedule by more than a couple of hours, whereas two trains, 59379-Indore-Maxi-Indore and 59388-Indore-Ratlam-Indore, were cancelled on Wednesday.

Rail movement was partly affected due to release of water from Kshipra Dam, which inundated rail tracks between Varlai and Dewas railway stations, but later restored after the water receded from the tracks, the release said.
