The fresh order came a few days after the couple, whistle-blower Dr Anand Rai and his wife Gauri Rai, filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh high court challenging her transfer from Mhow to Ujjain.

In fresh orders, she has been transferred to Dhar.

“This (the transfer) becomes a little questionable as it was issued after we demanded a CBI inquiry into the Vyapam scam. The government is trying to harass me immensely by putting my family away at a time when deaths of people related to the scam is being massively reported,” said Dr Anand Rai.

Stating that the government should have waited for the verdict of the court, the couple alleged that pressure is being mounted on them due to their active role in exposing the scam.

She also saw a pattern her transfer to a location which is the “area of Vikram Verma, a former member of the Rajya Sabha and husband of Neena Verma, who is the sitting MLA from Dhar.”

Dr Anand Rai had reported to the CBI about Vikram Verma alleging his role in the multi-layered scam, wherein he transferred his daughter from a private medical institute to a government college.

Gauri Singh, principal secretary, health, however, defended the move saying it had nothing to do with the scam.
