The website of the West Bengal criminal investigation department (CID) has been hacked, apparently by an organisation calling itself the Muslim Liberation Army.

The organisation posted a message and some photographs on the website, criticising India’s policy on J&K.

“The impunity with which the killings of civilians by military and police continues in J&K should be a source of shame for India,” the message read. The CID is yet to zero in on the server from which the hacking was done.

But there is no evidence that the crime was committed from Pakistan, said K Jayaraman, deputy inspector general, CID (operation). “This could have been done from any country, or even from Kolkata,” he said.

The matter came to notice on Sunday morning. “We think that it could have been done late on Saturday night,” Jayaraman said. The site was blocked immediately and was restored later in the evening.

Sources said for the last four months the website was getting blocked frequently.
