  Angsty about Aang

  The live-action series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, treads the same ground (or air) as the 2005-2008 animated series and the 2010 film, The Last Airbender. The fight scenes are much more impressive, the VFX is cooler. But it’s shiny deja vu, lacking heart. How many more remakes to get it right?
• Seeing things in (AD)HD

  Turns out, people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may be slightly more evolved than the rest of us. A study published Proceedings B, the journal of London’s Royal Society, finds that ADHD traits may have helped early hunter-gatherers when foraging. Their study got 457 participants to play an online berry-picking game. Those with ADHD wandered more, explored farther, picking more berries. How did they concentrate on one game for more than 10 minutes, though?

  Getting separation anxiety

  Why are so many songs about breakups, all of a sudden? Nisa Shetty sings “So, you wanna be friends now, after all the shit that went down?” on her new song, Drama. Kamakshi Khanna, on Love is Not a F<3cking Game, sings “Gave you my trust and precious time but only when you wanted it”. Even Selena Gomez is on it. Love On, her new release, has these lyrics: “Wait ’til I turn my love on, I’m no cheap thrill I’m a roller coaster ride.” Fight on, ladies!

  Enough Beatles documentaries. Skyfall director Sam Mendes is planning four biopics, one for each member of the band. But who’s he going to cast? We’re voting for Timothee Chalamet as George Harrison; Leo Woodall or Tom Holland as Paul McCartney; Isaac Hempstead Wright (yes, Bran from GoT) as John Lennon and Joe Keery as Ringo Starr. Imagine there’s no audition, I wonder if you can...

  The hippest new accessory in fashion is... a lollipop-holder for your designer leather bag. The Fendi x Chupa Chups collab is as tongue-in-cheek as a lolly brand should be. The holders dangle like charms from the bags, and come with a lollipop inside. They’d better. Fendi bags cost $2,000 and up. And there’s a sucker born every minute.

  The longest musical composition in history is not from your little sister’s piano recital. John Cage’s piece, As Slow as Possible, began in 2001 and won’t finish until 2640. It’s being played on a specially-built organ in Germany. Last week, it changed chords for the first time in two years. People booked tickets to hear it. The next change is on August 5, 2026. No, you can’t listen at 2x speed.
