The Brunch round-up: The week and how it made us feel
Feeling LuckyAnd cheering Lucky Ali. The OG indie singer is releasing a song, Tu Hai Kahaan, with The Local Train. The rock band has had the usual trajectory: They hit it big in the previous decade. Then, vocalist Raman Negi decamped for a solo career. The band he left now has a frontman we all loved when indie-pop ruled the charts. Wouldn’t it be a dream come true if they made the collab permanent?- Scared beyond sci-fiOf course you’ve binged 3 Body Problem. The adaptation of Liu Cixin’s complicated sci-fi trilogy has smoothly made complex (and fictitious) physics seem real, even easy. Turns out, the show’s Chinese producer was poisoned to death by a disgruntled lawyer. He’s been sentenced to death. Clearly we have less to fear from aliens than vengeful humans.
- Sad the mask is offMost in-the-know fashion folks already figured out who was behind the anonymous gossip handle @DietSabya. It called out the industry’s double standards and its failure to address copycats, sexual abuse and bigotry (plus, hilarious takedowns of new drops). Now, Reddit’s let the cat out of the Sabyasachi bag, forcing Santu Misra to archive his posts from trolls. This is why we can’t have good things!
- Putting Rebel on a pedestalStep aside, all ye who brag about their sexual conquests. Rebel Wilson, who recently came out as queer, has revealed in her memoir, Rebel Rising, that she didn’t have sex until she was 35 years old. She’s not embarrassed about it either. We’re here for this honesty, this courage, this life. Less furtive fumbling, more measured moans, please.
- Lacing up our corsetsObsession, our new fav new board game, is giving Jane Austen Regency vibes. Players build a deck of Victorian gentry, renovate the estate and manage butlers, housekeepers, underbutlers, maids, valets, and footmen. They must also successfully host fox hunts, music recitals, billiard evenings, political debates, and grand balls. There’s wealth and reputation at stake, elite connections to make. It’s utterly addictive, Lizzy.
- Back in a love triangleThe best one, because they’re making a fourth Bridget Jones movie and Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are all returning. This movie made green and red flags cool before those terms even existed. Being single hasn’t changed since the first movie came out in 2001. All together now: “Like Aversion. No, no. Like a vir-gin!”
