The Brunch round-up: The week and how it made us feel
Rethinking bonusesThey’re calling Mirzapur’s new episode drop a bonus. What it is, is a super-cut of outtakes, stuff we’d otherwise have to trawl the memes to see. It’s got Munna, back from the dead, to lead us into the episode too. Why ask for more from a good show, when it’s already done better than most?- Feeling Indian. Hanumankind’s songBig Dawgs, is having its moment. It’s on Reels and in videos. It briefly surpassed Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us before settling in the global top 10. Here come the haters. They’ve criticised him for saying, “I’m not an Indian rapper, I’m a rapper from India.” But he’s lived in the US, Nigeria, France and Dubai. Let’s chill a bit and let him choose his identity, maybe?
- Greeking outSeems like everyone’s binged the entire first season of Kaos within its first weekend on Netflix. So, are you pumped that Jeff Goldblum is Zeus? Are you kicked that his modern-day home looks like Liberace decorated it? Are you aghast that they’ve twisted a few of the OG myths? Are you humming all the ’90s tunes from the soundtrack? No? Just us? Liar!
- Logging offAt Amsterdam’s Offline Cafe, patrons must seal and deposit their phones to chill off-the-grid. And people are complaining. Hello, no one’s forcing them to go. The city has other cafes. Governments curb far more freedoms. Seems like we’re wired to protest all the wrong things.
- Picking applesSo many great Snow White adaps, so little time! We loved Lily Collins in the bonkers Mirror Mirror (2012), we loved the sombre Snow White and the Huntsman that same year. We love Snow White: A Tale Of Terror (1999), which has one very hot dwarf (a coal miner). A Disney version is coming. Rachel Zegler is Snow White, there’s already pushback. The true test will be topping the great stories already told.
- Sure that’s not how the Force worksScientists have named a new species of Peruvian snake, Tachymenoides harrisonfordi, after Harrison Ford. The actor also has an ant and a spider named after him. But a snake? Indiana Jones hates them. And Ford himself has publicly wondered why he gets the terrifying animals. Why not name a new bear species after him instead? Or a new planet? Han Soloii sounds very habitable.
