Union Home Minister Amit Shah has opened up about losing over 20 kg and improving his health after diabetes, crediting better sleep, diet and regular exercise.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has previously spoken about his health transformation, revealing how changes to his daily routine helped him lose more than 20 kg. Speaking at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Delhi on April 19, 2025, Shah opened up about his personal experience with diabetes and the lifestyle changes he began making in May 2020. He highlighted the importance of building sustainable habits and making time for both physical activity and adequate rest. Amit Shah on his weight loss and lifestyle changes

Reflecting on his health journey, Shah said he had been diabetic earlier and decided to make significant changes to his daily routine. “I was diabetic earlier. I made a huge change in my life since May 2020 till today. I fixed my sleep, improved my water intake, diet, and regular exercise. That has given me a lot,” Shah said.

According to the minister, these changes helped him shed more than 20 kilograms over the years. He also spoke about the impact the lifestyle changes had on his dependence on medication. “I have achieved much in life. In the last 4.5 years, I have become free from all allopathic medicines,” he said.

While addressing the gathering, Shah also emphasised the importance of making time for physical activity and sleep, particularly for young people. “Dedicate two hours of exercise for your body and six hours of sleep for your brain,” he advised.

Shah’s account of his own routine serves as an example of how making consistent changes to everyday habits can contribute to long-term health and fitness. For people looking to improve their well-being, the broader takeaway is to focus on sustainable habits rather than extreme diets or short-term solutions.
