Congress’ Sangrur candidate Kewal Singh Dhillon is facing tough questions during poll campaign, especially from unemployed youth.
Dhillon, accompanied by former Lehra MLA Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, was holding a public meeting at Kotra Lehal village on Wednesday when teacher eligibility test (TET) qualified candidates shot a volley of questions at the ruling party leader. They asked him how many trained youth have been employed since the Amarinder Singh government took charge in Punjab.
“I have completed MA/B.Ed and cleared TET, but I am still unemployed. I asked Kewal Dhillon where are the jobs? He replied that the Congress government has given employment to 6.5 lakh youths so far. When I asked the names of villages where these jobs have been given, he left the venue,” said Ranjit Singh from Kotra Lehal village.
“Unemployed youth of the segment have decided to follow Dhillon during his poll campaign and ask him questions relating to employment and development,” he added.
Another resident of the same village, Randeep Singh, questioned Bhattal about development work in his village. “Bhattal claimed she has spent ₹1.18 crore and opened 12 colleges in the region, but all colleges are in private hands. There is no development in our village. Youths seek regular jobs in government-run colleges and schools,” said Randeep.
On Monday night too, a youth, Bahal Singh of Benra village near Dhuri, tried to ask questions to the Congress candidate but was stopped by his supporters. Later, Dhillon left the venue in a hurry.

{{/usCountry}}Dhillon, however, said the youths trying to target him in poll meetings are sponsored by his opponents. “I appreciate discussion on employment and development, but youth backed by my opponents come in inebriated state and create ruckus in my election meetings,” said Dhillon.
