KC Garg, secretary, Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Federation has written a petition to the district collector and district election officer seeking clarification on the issue of IT (information technology) companies not declaring holiday on April 29. The petition was written on April 25.
Maval and Shirur constituencies will vote on Monday, April 29.
The petition states, “We are promoting hundred per cent voting in Maval constituency. We are creating awareness among residents of housing societies physically and through social media. This will help to increase the voter turnout percentage.”
Garg said, “After interacting with employees from IT companies I learned that the companies had declared holiday on April 23, but April 29 is a working day. This will affect voter turnout from IT companies based in Pune district as employees vote in the Maval constituency.”
Garg said, “We have requested the authorities to send a directive from the government office to all these IT companies.Three days back I have sent the details to Monika Singh, chief election officer and Ram Naval Kishore, district collector.”
Meanwhile, the members of Wagholi Housing Societies Association has claimed that they have taken steps to create awareness among masses to come out and vote. “Residents should come out and vote and only then we can bring developmental change in the area,” said Sanjeev Kumar Patil, director Wagholi Housing Societies Association.
