Answering nature’s call by the roadside will now invite spot fine. Those found defecating in the open will be imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 while those urinating in the open will have to cough up Rs 200 to LMC officials.
Armed with the orders of the National Green Tribunal and high court, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has got the powers to slap spot fine on filth mongers.
“The power to realise on-the-spot fine from filth mongers would be helpful in keeping the state capital neat and clean as part of the Swacch Bharat Mission,” said additional municipal commissioner PK Srivastava.
“The next time when you are throwing garbage on the road or in the park, be prepared to pay spot fine to LMC officials,” he added.
On Thursday, municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh issued orders to fine those not giving their solid waste to the garbage collection agencies.
Those littering the road, burning waste, throwing filth into river, nullah or any other water body will also be penalised. Officials like nagar swasthya adhikari, health inspectors and supervisors have been authorised to realise on-the-spot fine and file FIR against those who refuse to obey orders.
Municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh said, “According to NGT directives, there is a provision of spot fine of Rs 1,000 on the households that refuse to give their waste to door-to-door collection agency, while Rs 1,000 fine would be realised from street vendors who leave their waste on the road and don’t keep any dustbin with themselves. Residents who throw garbage in the open or throw it into nullah, drain, sewer or water body will be fined Rs 5,000. People who organise bhandara, langar or community dinner and leave plastic bottles, plates, pattals at the venue will have to dole out spot fine of Rs 5,000. Auto service centres who dump plastic films and spread filth in the open will be imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.”
