According to sources in the party, more heads are likely to roll as the chief minister has directed zonal coordinators, district presidents, Lok Sabha in-charges and Vidhan Sabha in-charges of the party to identify members who have indulged in nefarious activities and submit a report to the party state unit.

Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh was suspended on Wednesday. A day before, Hamirpur Sadar MLA Ashok Kumar Chandel was shown the door. "There are criminal cases pending against both," said a party leader.

State unit president Swami Prasad Maurya told HT: "The CM has made it clear that strict action would be taken against party members who are involved in criminal activities. She has told the cadre that they should work according to the party ideology. The BSP will not tolerate indiscipline," he said. The BSP expelled mafioso-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in April last year.
