11-year-old’s body found with throat slit near Thane

The child’s body was found inside a room in a building close to the factory where the boy’s parents work as daily wage labourers

An 11-year-old boy’s body was found 200 metres away from a factory where his parents worked as daily wage labourers, in Ulhasnagar, near Thane. The boy’s throat was slit with some sharp weapon, police said. The incident took place at Jayjanta colony on Monday night.

A police officer from Hill Line police station, said, “Like most other days, on Monday too, Harsh Alhat, a Class 2 student, came from school in the afternoon and went to his parents’ workplace where he would play with the other children. In the evening, his parents completed their shift and were heading home. When they went to call Harsh, they did not find him anywhere.”

Ganesh Alhat, 32, Harsh’s father, said that the boy’s body was found in a room in a building close to the factory.

“My wife Pratibha and I approached the police and alerted the locals. At night, a few locals sent me a picture on my mobile phone and asked me to check if it was my son’s body. Then with the police we took the body to JJ hospital for post mortem. My family has no enmity with anyone and we don’t know why our son was killed,” Ganesh said.

Locals alerted police about the body. There are no CCTV footages in the area. The owner of the flat and those who have rented it will be questioned, police said.

“Locals alerted us about a child lying unconscious in a pool of blood inside the flat. There are no CCTV footages in the area. The owner of the flat and those who have rented it will be questioned. We are also investigating with the locals. A team has been formed to nab the accused. A case has been lodged and further probe is on”, the officer said.
