Amit Thackeray’s fiancée Mitali Borude makes plans for a perfect, private wedding

Mumbai-based fashion designer, who got engaged to the MNS chief’s son on Monday, is determined to do everything for the wedding herself

Amit Thackeray’s fiancée, Mumbai-based fashion designer Mitali Borude, is determined to have the perfect wedding, even if it means it will take more than the usual time to plan and organise it.

Amit, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, and his long-time girlfriend Mitali, daughter of bariatric surgeon Dr Sanjay Borude, got engaged in a low-key ceremony on Monday. “I planned our engagement theme and designed the clothes myself, and I want to do the same for our wedding. If it has to be done, I am determined to do it myself. Even though Amit is eager to get married,” said the Mumbai-based fashion designer after their engagement ceremony on Monday.

Perfect, however, does not mean an all-out big bash for the couple. Through the nine years that they have known each other, the couple has shied away from the limelight, and their engagement, too, was an intimate ceremony. They plan to have an equally private wedding.

Sources close to the family said the Thackerays are very fond of Mitali, and that she has been a part of the family ever since the duo started dating. She is seen frequently at Krishna Kunj, and even campaigned for the MNS during the 2014 Assembly elections, along with Amit.

Over the years, the Borudes and the Thackerays have become close friends. “They have vacationed together on several occasions,” said a source who did not wish to be named.

Mitali started her own clothesline brand called The Rack two years ago, and has an outlet in Bandra, in partnership with Amit’s sister Urvashi. Mitali studied fashion designing at Sophia college, and worked with designer and BJP leader Shaina NC briefly before launching her own brand. Urvashi is now pursuing a career in filmmaking, and recently assisted director David Dhawan in the film Judwaa 2. The sisters-in-law are said to be close friends.

Amit , 25, who has studied business management at Welingkar Institute, is a caricaturist. Though the couple has infrequently campaigned for the MNS in its pre-election rallies, it is unclear whether they will become the face of the party in the future.
