The Dombivli residents issued an ultimatum to the regional transport authority (RTO) saying they would take to the streets if the RTO failed to act on their complaints against rogue auto drivers.

Between July 21 and August 14, the Kalyan RTO received 32 complaints against errant auto drivers. However, no action was initiated against a single driver claimed members of Protest Against Autowale (Vijay Thakare)

“Accepting our demands, the RTO introduced a complaint redressal system. When we followed up on the complaints registered via e-mail, it came to the fore that not a single complaint was addressed by the RTO. What is the point of having a complaint redressal system if the authorities are unwilling to take action? They have asked for five more days to resolve the complaints. If they fail, we’ll take to the streets,” said Pramod Kane, spokesperson, Protest Against Autowale.

Of the 32 complaints registered, most were about drivers ferrying fourth seat. Others comprised misbehaviour, congesting roads and not plying by meter.

“The KDMT claims it has started bus services from station, but we failed to find any as there is no proper schedule for these services,” said Kane.

A KDMT official said the transport body has started a few services on a trial basis.

Earlier this month, the traffic police and the RTO initiated a special drive against errant auto drivers. The officials inspected 600 autos and confiscated 15.
