Ari, who was diagnosed with cancer at 13, scored 60% in HSC’s science stream. Her kidneys and liver have weakened, and she has been in hospital for the past two months. “I checked my results from the hospital bed. Although it’s not my best score, I am happy with it,” said Ari, who lives in a slum in Worli.

Her father, who lost his job a few years ago when he was attending to her, said Sneha relapsed after she wrote the JEE entrance exam in April. “She was fine for the past three years, but the cancer has relapsed,” said her father. “The doctors have also recommended TB tests, as her liver and kidneys are infected.”

Although she wants to pursue engineering, her father said they will look for colleges closer her home. “I don’t want her to be stressed. Engineering will not be the right choice for her,” said her father.
