25 injured after major fire breaks out at furniture market in Mumbai

According to Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services officials, at least 25 people sustained minor injuries in the incident. Some sustained minor cuts and a few got head injuries during evacuation, said an official.

Fire brigade officials said they got a call around 1pm. 12 fire engines and five fire tankers are working to bring the fire under control.

Six ambulances are currently at the spot providing first aid to those injured in the fire. “Those injured were only in need of first aid,” said a health official at the spot.

Furniture was shifted out of the market at Oshiwara to ensure the fire does not spread further.

As the fire broke out at a plastic godown, the smoke rose several feet up in the air, visible from kilometres away.

Around 500 students of the HMW school and junior college that is close to the spot of the fire were evacuated sent to a nearby civic school after the fire. The students had their FYBcom examinations today, which had to be postponed.
