Two Malad-based sisters, whose parents had filed a petition in the Bombay high court accusing Sunil Kulkarni of ‘entrapping’ their daughters through a cult, have refused to cooperate with the police and record their statements. The police have also approached other youngsters, who are associated with Kulkarni and work with Shifu Sunkriti, and recorded statements of two.

Kulkarni was arrested following after the petition was filed by the parents of girls aged 21 and 23 years. The couple also claimed their daughters’ behaviour “changed drastically after attending the activities of the cult”. The plea, filed through advocates Sandesh Patil and Varsha Bhogle, claimed the “cult” is run by Sunil Kulkarni, who claims to be a doctor and psychiatrist.

Soon after Kulkarni’s arrest the police searched his Bandra residence and found sex clips in his mobile phone and pen drive and also found sex books at his residence. “Since Kulkarni’s arrest, a police team has been looking for leads to trace the girls who were targeted by him and record their statements. The girls are in the city but not ready record their statements,” said a crime branch officer.

The Mumbai police have filed a case under sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence), 370 (trafficking), 292 (sale of obscene books act), 420 (cheating) Indian Penal Code and other sections of the Information Technology Act at the Malad police station.
