Shiv Sena criticises BJP for Pak ceasefire violations, fuel prices, as Modi govt completes 4 years

Issues that plagued India during the previous Congress government have not been resolved, the BJP’s ally said in an editorila in ‘Saamana’.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led (BJP) central government complete four years in office today, the Shiv Sena on Saturday criticised its ally for failing to control fuel prices, its inability to end Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and the continuing ceasefire violations across the Line of Control (LoC) during this period.

Issues that plagued the nation during the previous government have continued to do so in the last four years, the Sena said in an editortial in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led party is a key constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre and a junior partner in the Maharashtra government. However, ties between the two saffron parties have hit an all-time low, and the Sena has stated that it will not ally with the BJP in the future polls.

There have been more than 2,000 ceasefire violations by Pakistan during the BJP’s regime, it pointed out. “The government has failed to control Pakistan, terrorism and the rising prices of petrol and diesel. What happened during the previous government is still happening. While campaigning in 2014, the current prime minister had asked what stops the government from controlling terrorism and rising fuel prices. Now, the people of the country are asking him the same question: what is stopping you from controlling the situation,” the editorial in the Marathi daily said.
