Traffic jams, bottlenecks to make Mumbai’s Kalanagar junction a nightmare from first week of June

Your travel to Bandra east via Kalanagar junction is set to get more tedious.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will start work on a 1.5-km flyover that will connect Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the road leading to Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) from the first week of June.

The flyover is part of a maze of three flyovers that will be built to decongest the busy junction.

A patch of the road will be barricaded for construction work, leading to more traffic jams.

With vehicles coming from five directions, the stretch between Kalanagar and BKC witnesses crippling jams during peak hours. A survey by MMRDA showed more than 12,000 cars pass the BKC junction every hour.

The construction of the flyovers has been delayed owing to the proposed DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro 2-B corridor.

The MMRDA had to redraw the design as one of the proposed flyovers was in the way of Metro, which is designed to enter BKC from Kalanagar Junction.
