Spreading communal hatred on WhatsApp by forwarding volatile messages proved costly for hate-mongers after the Mumbai police booked at least two persons for the offence and registered a first information report (FIR) in this matter. Sources claimed the message was aimed at creating unrest during Ganeshotsav.
The police were alerted about the inappropriate message making rounds on the social media app on Monday afternoon. Considering the volatile nature of the message, the cops booked two persons and are in the process of making arrests.
“An offence has been registered by the Mumbai police against persons for spreading communal hatred and rumour mongering on social media. Culprits are being arrested,” said Mumbai police spokesman deputy DCP Ashok Dudhe.
