A two-year-old girl was found dead in a 5-ft-deep water tank located on a Kandivli temple premises on Tuesday. At 1.30 pm, the temple priest was drawing water to wash utensils when he saw the body floating in the tank.

The girl was identified as Priyanka Gupta, a resident of Ashok Nagar slum at Samta Nagar.
Initial investigation revealed that Priyanka, a toddler, was playing with her sister Guddi (4) outside her shanty at 10 am.
Guddi went inside the hut to drink water and when she came out, Priyanka was missing.
“Guddi informed her mother Mamta, who, with the help of neighbours, started looking for her,” said Senior Police Inspector Anant Kenjle.
As news spread of a toddler’s body found in the tank, Mamta and the neighbours rushed to the temple and identified her. Priyanka’s father Makurdhan, a fruit seller, was at work at the time of the incident.
The victim’s family and neighbours suspect foul play because how could a girl, who could hardly walk, reach the temple located 300 meters away and fall into the tank?
The family alleged that it could be a case of human sacrifice. Neighbour Anirudh Gupta claimed: “Her death could be a case of human sacrifice. The police should book the killer.”
