The actor, who is serving a 42-month term in the Yerawada jail in Pune, had applied for the leave in June, on account of his daughter’s ill health. The Pune divisional commissioner, S Chockalingam, sanctioned the application two days ago, and the actor is expected to be home in the next few days, after the completion of formalities. The 30-day parole can be extended by 60 days, which means the actor can be out on parole for three months.

Following Dutt’s application, his counsel had, in July, requested the home department to issue instructions to the divisional commissioner to decide on the application within the stipulated 45-day period. “We have been informed that the Pune divisional commissioner has approved the parole application. Dutt will be out once the formalities are completed,” said Vijay Satbir Sigh, principal secretary, home department.

Moreover, the actor is also likely to get a remission of 30 days at the end of his term.

“The 30-day exemption is granted to convicts with good conduct. But the addition of four days, the punishment for reporting two days late after the completion of furlough in January, may result in rejection of the remission,” said an official from the home department.

The actor has been out of jail for 146 days, since his sentence began in May 2013. In October 2013, Dutt was granted furlough, which was extended by 14 days. In January 2014, he was granted parole for 30 days, which was extended to 60 days. He was again granted 14-day furlough in December 2014.
