Sale of degree college forms across Mumbai University-affiliated colleges ended on Thursday, with self-financing courses such as Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) continuing to emerge as top choices for prospective students.

The sale of forms began on May 30, when the state board announced Class 12 board exam results.

In keeping with the pattern for the past few years, principals said that forms for BMS, BMM, Bachelor in Accounting and Finance (BAF) and Bachelor in Banking and Insurance sold the most.

At ML Dahanukar College, more than 600 forms each were sold for the BMS (capacity: 120 seats) and BAF (648 seats), while at Hinduja College 612 forms have been sold for 60 seats in BAF and 975 seats for 120 BMS seats. At St Xavier’s College, for BMS 1,800 forms were filled for 360 arts seats, and 1,800 for 60 seats for BMM and BMS both.

At National College more than 6,000 forms have been sold for 600 seats, at St Andrew’s more than 4,300 forms for 2,000 seats. “Students generally rush for the self-financing courses,” said Madhavi Pethe, principal of Dahanukar college.

“Science and arts courses haven’t seen as many forms being sold,” said Dinesh Panjwani, principal of National College. “Students perceive employment-oriented courses as more attractive.”

The university has the capacity to enroll more than 1.5 lakh students across all streams in first year undergraduate courses. This year around 1.11 lakh candidates passed the Class 12 board exam from the Mumbai division.
