City jeweller robbed of Rs 25L gold at gunpoint

A 34-year-old jeweller and his employee were assaulted with choppers and robbed of gold jewellery worth Rs25 lakh at Nalasopara on Wednesday night. Puja Changoiwala reports.

A 34-year-old jeweller and his employee were assaulted with choppers and robbed of gold jewellery worth Rs25 lakh at Nalasopara on Wednesday night. The five unidentified accused allegedly fired three rounds into the air to scare the duo and bystanders before fleeing with the valuables.


Sunil Keshavprakash Jain left his shop located on Achalya Road in Nalasopara (East) at around 10.30pm on Wednesday on a motorbike with his employee Santosh Chaplok, 31, to go to his residence in the Vasant Nagari area of Nalasopara (East).

When they reached Jain's bui-lding gate at around 11pm, a wh-ite Scorpio with five men inside crashed into their bike from the rear. Four of them started assa-ulting the duo with choppers and scared off passersby by firing in the air.

The police said they have obtained CCTV footage from a bank outlet in the neighbourhood. "We are checking our records to identify them," said an official.
