The Kasturba police on Thursday arrested a gang of robbers that was later identified as one specialising in car thefts. They targeted high-end four wheelers in the city.

The police nabbed the trio during a nakabandi on Dattapada Road in Borivli (East). The three were travelling in a Chevrolet Tavera.
The officers asked the car to halt for checking. However, the occupants did not pay heed and drove on. The police followed the vehicle and managed to stop it at Rajendra Nagar near Western Express highway.
The three, Mohammad Habibulla Khan (30), Dhansukh Solanki (36) and Santosh Pandya (32), were taken into custody. They are party to stealing and selling over 100 costly cars to gangs in other states.
“We recovered a hexblade, eight spanners of different sizes, 25 keys of various cars and seven fake number plates from the car. Officials said the Tavera in which they were caught was also stolen from Bhiwandi,” said Ajit Patil, additional commissioner of North region.
The police have succeeded in recovering four stolen cars.
The accused were produced in a local court that sent them to police custody till Tuesday.
