ICSE schools warm up for athletic championship

Fifty-five ICSE schools have confirmed participation for the three-day event, which starts on Monday. The event will see both primary and secondary schools participate in a host of track and field events at Priyadarshini Park at Malabar Hill.

“Even though we have our school annual day programme on the same days as the competition, we are trying our best to send a full contingent for the sports meet,” said Seema Buch, principal of Gundecha Education Academy, Kandivli.

Sanyukta Baluni, 15, a student of the school, is keen to show off her sporting prowess at the event. “I am excited about the event as I am passionate about sports. I will represent my school in the walking event, and the javelin and discus throw competitions,” said the Class 10 student, who is also a national-level tennis player.

Organised by Yellow Fire Communication – a sports management company, in association with Hindustan Times, the event brings together some of the city’s best student athletes who will compete for a chance to participate in the national meet that will be held at Rourkela in November. The athletics competition is one of many inter-school competitions held by the AISM.

“The government has generally been pro-sports when it comes to framing state education policies. However, there has been a problem on the implementation side. This event should give students the chance to show off their skills,” said Prajanya Advait, chief executive officer of Yellow Fire Communications.
