Men protest ladies special trains

A railway protection force officer was injured at Thane railway station on Tuesday, when a mob of over 100 male commuters on the trans-harbour line between Thane and Vashi staged a rail-roko and pelted stones at RPF officials in protest of ladies special trains operating during peak hours between Thane and Vashi.

A railway protection force officer was injured at Thane railway station on Tuesday, when a mob of over 100 male commuters on the trans-harbour line between Thane and Vashi staged a rail-roko and pelted stones at RPF officials in protest of ladies special trains operating during peak hours between Thane and Vashi.

While most male commuters were stranded with trains running late, the ladies special train of 9.14am was almost empty. Some men tried to board the train and the women raised a ruckus, triggering the protest.

“The RPF officers tried to pull the male commuters out when some of the commuters took to the tracks, staged a rail roko and started pelting stones, injuring sub inspector SP Singh,” said Ajay Yadav, senior inspector, RPF, Thane. Singh suffered two stitches on his forehead.

The police arrested Jitendra Gurav, 19, a resident of Kalyan and Laxman Shinde, 42, a Mumbai resident, while the others escaped.
