On Sunday, several posters of Nirupam, advertising the celebrations, were found torn in Kandivli, following his pro-migrant remarks made recently at Nagpur.

Nirupam had said north Indians could bring the city to a halt, which had upset the Shiv Sena and the Mahar-ashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

Shiv Sena legislator Vinod Ghosalkar on Sunday accepted responsibility and said his men blackened and tore 250 posters of Nirupam in Charkop, Malad, Kandivli, Borivli and Dahisar.

Ghosalkar also dared Nirupam to fight with him.

“I am very angry at his statements. I will resign as a legislator on November 5, after which I am openly challenging Nirupam to come and fight with me,” said Ghosalkar on Sunday.

Sources said MNS chief Raj Thackeray might launch his ‘anti-Nirupam’ campaign on Monday.

Chhath Puja is mainly celebrated in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Nirupam’s Bihar Front, however, has been celebrating the festival in the city since 1998.
