Three Mumbai schools among top 50 offering ISC, ICSE

In the rankings, which were based on student performances in the ISC and ICSE 2013 exams, Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort, recorded the second best result out of the top 50, while Lilavatibai Podar School in Santacruz and Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane were ranked 12 and 19 respectively.

Released on Tuesday, the list was compiled in a report by The Learning Point, a collaborative online project run by students of top institutes.

“We ranked the top 50 schools across the country based on their performance in ISC and ICSE exams this year,’’ said Prashant Bhattacharji, founder of the project.

While Welham Girl’s School, Dehradun, stood first in ISC, and St Mary’s School, Pune, topped in the ICSE exams, Mumbai’s Cathedral and John Connon School emerged second in ISC and third in ICSE exams based on the students’ performance this year.

This was under the category of schools with 70 or more candidates.

Cathedral and John Connon School had 57.89% of its ISC students scoring above 90%; 68.21% met the benchmark in ICSE exams.

Other city schools did well in the categories of institutions that sent 200 and more candidates to the exams.

Lilavatibai Podar School was on the number one position in ICSE exams in this category.

“Maintaining quality is a challenge because of the large numbers, but through regular practice sessions and testing assignments, we have overcome it,” said Nureen Fernandes, principal of the school.

Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School was ranked 14 in this category for ICSE exams. “We train students only for the ISC exams and nothing else, we do not give any special IIT training,” said principal Revathy Srinivasan.

Despite this, 17 students from the school were selected for admission to the IITs, she added.
