Punjabi Bhangra music artist, Mehsopuriah, who became popular with hits such as Tumka II, Punoo Haniya and Ranglay Punjab Diyaan among many others, has released a single - Hookaan, after a gap of six years. The single which was released on December 16 is the Birmingham-born singer’s comeback single.

“I was away for quite sometime because I didn’t want to produce music just for the sake of it. There are artists who feel they have to release music, because they have to stay relevant. That’s not the case with me. I want to make music because I want my fans to fall in love with the song I create,” he says.
On why he decided to take a break, the singer explains, “I felt that I was playing the same music over and over again. That’s why I decided to stay away for a while. I looked at my fans and I knew it in my gut that I have to bring something new to them.”
It took 14 months for him to finish the recently-released single. “Usually I do not take such a long time on a song. But Hookaan is my comeback single. So I wanted it to be bigger in terms of sound and everything else. I didn’t want to hurry up and do it in a rush. I came up with the hook line while I was in the shower. So there’s nothing like that I was in the recording studio for days and months. But I just wanted to find the right people, right from the producer to the video director. That took all the time,” he shares.
Releasing the song in winters was also one of the main reasons why he took a while to come out with it. “I could have released the song in summers. But then I realised, no one goes out a lot in India during that weather. They won’t play the song in their car, or perhaps even dance to it outside. So we decided to release it in winters, when everyone likes going out and partying,” he says.
