KOLKATA: Kolkata police lodged an FIR against Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel late on Saturday following a complaint from Ratna Chatterjee — the wife of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) mayor Sovan Chatterjee.

The mayor’s wife alleged that Samuel and his news portal had defamed her husband intentionally to impact the result of the last assembly election of West Bengal, where her husband was also contesting. Sovan Chatterjee eventually won the election and became the state housing, environment and fire and emergency minister in the state cabinet.
Right before the polls, Narada News portal came out with two videos that showed 11 TMC leaders and a senior police officer accepting bribe promising help to a fictitious company that wanted to invest in West Bengal.
