The mother and daughter were allegedly gangraped on July 30, 2016, on NH-91 in Bulandshahr.

On Tuesday, the girl and her aunt were sleeping in a room, and her uncle was sleeping in the open outside the room. Her parents were away to attend a wedding.

“It was the first time my wife left her alone. It was important to attend the wedding as our relatives insisted. My younger cousin was sleeping outside the room. Only the kitchen light was on in the house. Around midnight, my daughter heard a sound as if someone jumped from the roof. She wrapped herself under the blanket as she was scared and did not speak. The unidentified man then entered the room and picked her tablet and the school bag,” the girl’s father who is a cab driver said.

“We suspect it could have been someone who knew that both of us were away. I don’t know the person’s intention. I had left my cousin and his wife with my daughter as she could not be left alone. She is also having school examinations. Her mother
otherwise doesn’t leave her alone after the incident,” her father said.

The girl is now attending a new school and has been using the tablet to surf the internet for
academic purposes, her father said.

“I am upset thinking about the tablet which was stolen. I used it to surf my choice of topics on the internet. I will have mathematics exam on Monday. Earlier, I found mathematics and English difficult, but, now, I like them as teachers have explained everything properly,” the girl said.

The family said that they were provided police security after the Bulandshahr incident but hardly any policemen visited them in the last month and a half.

“It is not in my knowledge whether any security has been sanctioned to the family or not. However, policemen from Khoda police station often visit them. Due to the ongoing elections, a majority of personnel are posted in other districts. With regard to the theft, we have registered an FIR and the investigation is on,” Anil Kumar Yadav, circle officer (Indirapuram), said.

On July 30, the family was travelling to their native village when a gang of robbers forced them to stop near Dostpur in Bulandshahr district. They took the family to the nearby fields. The men were tied up, and the girl and her mother were gangraped. The other members too were allegedly assaulted.

Six accused were arrested by the UP police and three of them were chargesheeted by the
Central Bureau of Investigation after the agency was handed over the probe.
