Kadir Khan -- a member of the committee under whose leadership letters were written to the Prime Minister, President, Union home minister and UP chief minister -- has threatened to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi if his demands are not met within the next 30 days.

Khan said the move will help check attempts to disturb communal harmony.

“Since 1947, many anti-social elements have been busy attempting to disturb the communal harmony among different religions. We have observed that many unscrupulous elements are throwing animal meat at religious places, desecrating religious scriptures and doing other activities to create a rift among different communities. Cow protection is one of the most sensitive issues to be dealt with as it is related to faith. We demand its protection to ensure peaceful co-existence,” said Khan, who said no one in his family eats beef because he was brought up among Hindu families.

“I will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar if the government fails to declare cow a national animal. I also demand strict punishment for those involved in cow slaughtering. Government should issue a registration number for cows and their calves,” Khan said.
