Few of Saina Nehwal’s Twitter followers turned on her after she tweeted a photograph holding an Honor phone, the Chinese smartphone brand she endorses.
Saina, who made her comeback from injury at the China Open last month, did not react to the trolling and rant, choosing to stay away from controversy.
While few tweeted, requesting Saina,the 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist and a former world No. 1, to end her association with the brand, many called her association dangerous as it was against the interest of India.

“Kindly don’t promote Chinese products... it’s dangerous for our nation,” tweeted a fan.
“Sorry this is china product why u promoting this product (sic),” tweeted another.
“Ur buy this product is China. Please feel sad for buying this mobile (sic),” another twitter user wrote.
However, the majority of tweets in reply to the photograph were in support of Saina. Many backed her and asked her to ignore the ill-informed comments.
Some even rebuked the Twitter users who raised objections, saying majority of the phones and laptops being sold in India were Chinese products.
Saina was unperturbed by the whole debate on her twitter feed. A couple of days later, she again retweeted a picture of the phone with a message. This time the rants were significantly less.
