Jinder Mahal defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the WWE Championship at Smackdown Live’s exclusive pay-per-view (PPV) WWE Hell in a Cell.
Mahal, who beat Randy Orton to win the title at Backlash, registered a clean victory over the ‘King of Strong Style’ at Hell in a Cell. For the second consecutive PPV, the ‘Modern Day Maharaja’ got the better of Nakamura.
Meanwhile, Kevin Owens defeated Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon in a Falls Count Anywhere Hell In a Cell match with a surprise assistance from Sami Zayn.
McMahon placed Owens on an announce table and climbed to the top of the cell structure. As he was dropping an elbow, Zayn—longtime friend and rival of the ‘Prizefighter’ Owens—helped him get off the table and as a result, McMahon landed on the table.
Sami Zayn then dragged KO onto Shane McMahon and implored the referee to count to three, giving Owens the victory.
In another match, Baron Corbin won the United States Championship in a triple threat match featuring AJ Styles and Tye Dillinger.
The Usos beat The New Day to become the brand new Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships.
