The government sounds an alert in view of the two-days economic blockade called by Maoists against the Centre’s economic policies and creation of SEZs, reports Arun Kumar.

The government has sounded an alert across Bihar in view of the two-days economic blockade called by Maoists from Monday midnight against the Centre’s economic policies and creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

All police stations, particularly in the 21 Naxalite-infested districts, have been directed to maintain round-the-clock vigil.

As the Naxalites tend to target Railways during their strike, the police headquarters has already deployed 200 additional constables in the GRP. The DGP said that the RPF had also been asked to mobilize its resources.

Sinha said patrolling has been intensified on all major national and state highways and railway tracks.

Deputy General Manager-cum-Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway (ECR) AK Chandra said apart from heightened patrolling of tracks, particularly during the night, adequate RPF and RPSF personnel would be deployed at railway stations in areas vulnerable to Naxalite attacks.

Pilot engines have already started escorting trains in naxal areas like Rohtas. Chandra said the pilot engine would move ahead of the trains. “As far as possible, the trains will move in bunches as far as practicable to provide better security cover,” he said, adding no decision had so far been taken to cancel or divert any train.
