Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will embark on a statewide 'Vikas Yatra' from Monday to give a first hand account to the people about development works initiated by the state government.
"The idea behind the Yatra was to inform about progress of development works and address people's problems. I will go to the people directly, live with them, know their grievances and address their problems," Kumar said.
During the Yatra, which will commence from Bagaha in West Champaran district, the Chief Minister would camp in villages and meet people. He will review development schemes with officials. Such programmes will be held at a distance of every 20-25 km, sources said.
The first phase of CM's Yatra will continue till February and will resume after Parliament elections are over, they said.
Kumar, though, denied that the programme has anything to do with the elections and termed the exercise as part of the governance.
However, RJD and Congress, both allies of ruling UPA at the Centre, not only termed Kumar's Yatra as an election gimmick but held it as a sheer wastage of tax-payer's money.
