The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) planetarium at Sahakarnagar will finally open to public soon as its construction works are nearing completion, said former deputy mayor Aba Bagul.
The planetarium is being built at the Rajiv Gandhi e-learning school, located at Sahakarnagar.
The planetarium has a seating capacity of 52 seats and the entire auditorium is air conditioned. PMC erected the planetarium by spending Rs 5 crore, said Aba Bagul, who spearheaded the initiative to erect the planetarium.
Bagul said that the planetarium would be named in memory of former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who had taken an initiative to promote science and technology during his tenure in the state government.
The new planetarium has been carefully incorporated with digital technology and has used advanced techniques to make the audio-visual display as authentic as possible. Residents will also get audio-visual information on the different aspects of astronomy at the planetarium.
Bagul said that many institutes helped PMC in erecting the planetarium. According to him, the planetarium will help increase interest in science and technology among youngsters in the city.
The PMC had planned to erect the planetarium on a large piece of land, but owing to space constraints, it was later decided to erected it in a smaller area.

{{/usCountry}}Bagul said that he is planning to inaugurate the planetarium in the presence of various former chief ministers and added that the date of inauguration will be announced soon. The entry ticket rates would be decided by the PMC.
