11-yr-old boy dies after truck rams cycle in Chandigarh

An eleven-year-old boy was killed after a truck hit his cycle near Gurdwara Sahib Chowk, Sector 33, here on Thursday. Gaurav, a Class-5 student of St Anne’s Convent School, Sector 32, was returning home after attending a coaching class in Sector 32 when the mishap took place.

Gaurav, a Class-5 student of St Anne’s Convent School, Sector 32, was returning home after attending a coaching class in Sector 32 when the mishap took place.

A passerby informed the police control room (PCR), following which Gaurav was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, with multiple injuries, including on his head. He was declared brought dead by doctors.

The accused truck driver, identified as Partap Singh of Amritsar, was arrested at the spot.

He has been booked under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of other) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 34 police station.

Mother’s two-hour ordeal

After Gaurav failed to return home from tuition, his mother started inquiring about him. It was after two hours that she got to know about the accident.

The body of the victim, who the kin say was a “bright student”, was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
