2 Doaba men drown in Oman, bodies arriving tomorrow

According to their employer, they went for bath in a sea on vacation and were missing since. Officials from the company that employed them finally informed the families of their death due to drowning on Saturday (July 1).

The bodies of two men from Doaba, missing in Muscat, Oman — around 2,200 km away — since June 26 will arrive in their villages on Thursday. Tajinder Singh (30), of Masaniya village in Adampur, and of Sukhbir Singh (28), Rajowal village in Hoshiarpur district had gone to Oman in January 2016 to work, and will not never return.

According to their employer, they went for bath in a sea on vacation and were missing since. Officials from the company that employed them finally informed the families of their death due to drowning on Saturday (July 1).

Tajinder’s father Manjeet Singh retired from the army a few years ago, while Sukhbir’s father Iqbal Singh is a priest (granthi) at a local gurdwara in the village.

Tajinder is survived by parents and an elder brother and sister, both married. Sukhbir is survived by parents and a married elder brother.

Family members co-ordinated with company officials in Oman to bring back the bodies.

Adampur MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu expressed his condolences. “This is tragic news. I will visit the family and I share their pain.”
