Hirwa had allegedly hit a 57-year-old woman, Gurmeet Kaur, a resident of Takkar village, with his Bajaj Pulsar bike on August 11. The bike was being driven rashly.

The case was registered on a complaint from Ram Lal, the son of the deceased. He said that he and her mother had just de-boarded a bus and were crossing the road, when Hirwa's Pulsar bike hit her mother. The bike was being driven rashly, he alleged.

Gurmeet Kaur was rushed to the Jalandhar civil hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

Ram Lal said that after hitting her mother, Harwi also fell on the ground and sustained serious injuries.

The students revealed their identity, but after seeing the critical condition of Gurmeet Kaur and the crowd of people around, fled from the spot.

Inquiry officer Ramandeep Singh said the police had started its investigation.
