The police officials continue to remain tight-lipped about the role of the three arrested youths’ involvement in the case of two girls whose bodies were found in Bist-Doab canal. Bodies of two classmates Rupinderjeet Kaur ,14, of Chahla and Manpreet Kaur ,14, of Sudha Majra villages were found from the canal.
Officials ranking from station house officer (SHO) to superintendent of police (SPs) are not revealing anything and asking the media persons to contact senior superintendent of police (SSP) Satinder Singh. The SSP had told HT that things will be clear in the coming days as the investigation is on. The cops are also mum about post-mortem report of the bodies. Balachaur police produced the three accused, Inderpreet Singh of Sudha Majra, Gurwinder Singh of Shidori near Pojewal and Lakhvir Singh of Aema village, in a local court on Thursday. The accused were sent to two-day police custody. All of them are in their twenties.
The arrests were made based on the first information report (FIR) registered against unidentified persons on the statement of Manpreet’s uncle Balraj Singh, 30, of Nakodar.

{{/usCountry}}Moreover, the cops also recovered shoes and socks of both girls abandoned at Kangna village of Balachaur town on Thursday, few metres from a room where victims’ bags were recovered on Sunday. Meanwhile, Rupindejeet Kaur’s body was handed over to her family after the post-mortem.
On 21 July, Manpreet’s body was found floating in the canal and while Rupinderjeet’s body was recovered on 26 July. As per a CCTV footage, both girls were found crossing the road at 2.05 pm on July 21. On the same day, the school authorities had found a mobile phone from Rupinderjeet and informed her family. The police had also registered a kidnapping case on the statement of Rupinderjeet’s father Kulwant Singh, 45, as he suspected his daughter was abducted. The cops had also talked to the school authorities, classmates of the victims and the bus driver. As per the driver, the girls had stepped down midway claiming that they wanted to attend the tuition class. As per cops, later both girls had hired an auto-rickshaw to reach the canal.
