Chandigarh discotheques may close an hour later, at 1am

The UT administration is mulling allowing discotheques to remain open an hour later till 1am instead of midnight. UT deputy commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi held meetings in this regard where the policy governing discotheques was reviewed.

Senior administration functionaries claim that extension in hours will be allowed only if the owners of such establishments submit a monthly report on incidents of violence or skirmishes on their premises along with the CCTV footage. (Representative image)

The police and the excise department were also represented at the meeting.

The final minutes of the meeting that will be placed before UT administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki proposes the extension of business hours.

Senior administration functionaries claim that extension in hours will be allowed only if the owners of such establishments submit a monthly report on incidents of violence or skirmishes on their premises along with the CCTV footage.

The owners have been cautioned not to rely solely on their bouncers to resolve such issues. An SP or DSP level officer will visit the establishments every week to keep a tab.
