These views were expressed by Dr Pankaj Soni, head, department of anesthesia, Amandeep Hospital, while addressing a one-day nutritional certificate course for critically ill patients here on Sunday.

“This area was not being given much importance, but now is emerging as new area of interest,” he said.

The course was held by the hospital in collaboration with the local chapter of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine.

As nutrition is an important aspect in the management of critically ill patients in the ICU, the aim of this course was to enlighten the physicians, anesthesiologists and the critical care specialists, working in the different ICU settings. The course laid stress on the appropriate way to managing the nutritional aspect in the ICU.

About a hundred critical care experts, surgeons, physicians, dieticians and PG students from the region attended the course.
