He said this at a press conference here on Sunday. Former panchayati raj minister Jai Ram Thakur, BJP state spokesman Ajay Rana and Brig Kushal Thakur were also present.

Sharma claimed that though he was contesting his first election, he had retained the top posts of the party in the last 30 years, and was in-charge of the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency, besides handling the political affairs of party candidates during “a number of successful elections”.

“If I can successfully manage the political affairs of others during the state or Lok Sabha elections, then I can use my skill, talent and knowledge to win my own election,” he said.

Sharma added that he knew that the fight was tough because he was not contesting against only Pratibha Singh, the wife of chief minister Virbhadra Singh. “I have to fight the whole government machinery which will help Pratibha get more votes by using pressure tactics,” he claimed.
