Giaspura railway crossing here will remain closed for repair work on April 1 and 2.
The railway department displayed a notice on the railway crossing informing the same. The crossing was earlier to be closed on March 30 and 31 as well, but had to be opened because of heavy rush on the track.
Railway divisional traffic manager (DTM) Parminder Singh said, “The permission to close the railway crossing of the area has been taken from the headquarters. It is a routine safety process. We have to inspect the railway lines, and for this the tracks would be rooted out and lined after cleaning.”
Singh added that the work could not be started earlier because of heavy traffic on the tracks.
“There are three rail tracks on this route, and all of them are busy routes. We would close the track when we get the signal that traffic can be diverted to other routes. The railway track repair work on this route would be done from Sahnewal to Ludhiana in the first phase,” Singh further said.
The railway crossing is the linking lane between the main GT road, Sherpur and Giaspura, and would affect people of the area. For those who travel through the crossing every day, can take an alternative route by going to Dhandhari, where the railways has built a bridge over the rail track.
