Of the injured, Harjit Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Avtar Singh, and Vishakha took splinters in the feet, while Durgesh was hit near the abdomen by another fragment. Guard Rakesh Kumar had the gun in his lap when it went off, with these five people at 15 to 20 metres. The gunshot led to panic in the area that has many popular restaurants, besides educational institutes.

The guard was, later, detained and the bleeding injured moved to a private hospital nearby. Injured Harjit Singh, later, told reporters: “I was on duty, sitting in my chair when I felt that something had hit my foot. I looked at my foot and it was bleeding.” Some people from the market took the guard to the second floor of a building, where a team led by assistant commissioner of police (north) Bal Kishan Singla questioned him about the incident.
