“During summer vacations, we see lakhs of devotes visiting the holy shrine. The rush increases manifold during the weekends. In June, the day temperature rises above 40 degree Celsius every day and it gets difficult for devotes to walk on hot marble tiles. So, we keep pouring cold water on tiles to ensure a comfortable movement for devotees,” said Diljit Singh Bedi, additional secretary, SGPC. Also, water is sprinkled every few hours on the carpets laid in the entire ‘parikarma’, he says.

“We have also installed an awning at the ‘parikarma’ to protect the devotees from direct sunlight,” said Diljit.

Arrangements have also been made to ensure drinking water round-the-clock at the corners of the ‘parikarma’. “We are also serving water to devotees, who have to stand in long queues,” said Diljit.
