A year after a BRS Nagar resident received an electricity bill of Rs 2.80 lakh, he was in for another shock after he was served a bill of Rs 1.95 lakh this month.
Adding to his woes, the electricity to his house was disconnected on Monday, even though the last day for bill deposit was September 26.
The complainant, Ravjot Singh of BRS Nagar, said he had become a victim of official apathy of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
After he submitted a letter to PSPCL for correction, his bill was reduced to Rs 67,360. Interestingly, the authority had bombarded Ravjot with similar faults in previous bills when he received a bill of Rs 2.82 lakh in June last year that was later rectified to Rs 15,550 and a bill of Rs 2.77 lakh that was reduced to Rs 7,020 later.
Singh said that he received a bill of Rs 1.95 lakh for a period from July to September this year that was reduced to Rs 67,360 after correction.
“Even the amount after correction was too much for a period of two months. Surprisingly, the electricity connection of the house where I live on rent was disconnected on Monday even as the last date for deposit of bill was September 26,” said Singh.

{{/usCountry}}“The problem started when my meter developed a snag in May last year, after which I requested PSPCL to change it but the authority delayed the process” said Ravjot.
PSPCL executive engineer Himmat Singh Dhillon said the electricity connection is disconnected when a person doesn’t deposit his bill for a long time. “If the person comes to me with his complaint, I would look into the matter and take appropriate action in this regard,” said Dhillon.
